RSF VIDEO - Following the ceasefire agreement, Israeli authorities must authorise emergency medical relocation for Gazan journalist Fadi Alwahidi

Al-Jazeera journalist Fadi Alwahidi, gravely wounded by Israeli sniper fire on 9 October 2024 while reporting from the Jabalia camp in northern Gaza, is fighting for his life as the Israeli authorities continue to refuse his transferral to a hospital abroad, despite repeated appeals from Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

My mental state has deteriorated considerably, especially as I have been in a Gaza hospital for two and a half months without medication or care,” Fadi Alwahidi told RSF.  In early October, the 24-year-old Al-Jazeera photojournalist was shot in the neck by an Israeli sniper while filming the siege of the Jabalia camp in northern Gaza. After initial treatment at the Al-Maamadani hospital, his condition remains critical and he requires urgent transferral to a facility outside Gaza for appropriate medical care.

To avoid increasing this war’s terrible death toll, the Israeli authorities must immediately authorise the hospitalisation of journalist Fadi Alwahidi outside the Gaza Strip. With his life at stake, we urge the Israeli armed forces to allow him to safely leave the Palestinian territory to receive full medical treatment as soon as possible. We hold the Israeli army fully responsible for future developments.
