RSF is sending generators, other energy supply equipment to 91 Ukrainian media
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is working with its Ukrainian partner, the Institute of Mass Information (IMI), to provide generators and other energy supply sources to media outlets hit by the surge in Russian military strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. This initiative supplements the support RSF has already provided to nearly 1,400 journalists and media covering the war.
In response to appeals from media whose work has been badly affected by the impact of the war, including electricity supply problems, RSF is sending 59 generators, 52 solar charging stations and 150 solar power banks to a total of 91 media outlets in 14 of Ukraine’s regions. The IMI’s regional branches will oversee distribution.
The first recipients will be 64 media outlets in areas hit hardest by the Russian strikes and power cuts, which will be supplied as a priority. Twenty-seven other media outlets will be supplied soon afterwards.
Helping nearly 1,400 journalists and media outlets covering the war
The provision of energy equipment is just one of the latest steps taken by RSF to help journalists in Ukraine. Since creating the Press Freedom Centre in Lviv on 11 March 2022 and in Kyiv two months later, RSF has assisted nearly 1,400 journalists and media outlets, working together with the IMI and other local organisations including the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU). Eighty percent of the recipients have been Ukrainian, but journalists from 30 other countries throughout the world have also been assisted.

RSF is carrying out these assistance activities with support from the European Commission, the Tides Foundation, the Taipei Representative Office in France, the Open Society Foundations, the Fondation de France, and with the help of its long-standing partner, the Institute of Mass Information (IMI), as well as the Lviv City Hall, the Ukraine Media Centre and Bioport Humanitarian Logistics.
