Limits of Christmas magic - RSF's new campaign video
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is today launching an end-of-year holiday campaign video to raise awareness of media freedom violations and to appeal for donations. The video shows some of the world's best-known press freedom predators disguised as Father Christmas to remind the public that, for journalistic freedom and independence, "the magic of Christmas sadly has its limits" in many countries.
Denouncing attacks on the freedom to inform
With nearly 70 journalists killed worldwide in 2017 and more than 300 currently detained, the threats to media personnel keep on growing. This short video reflects this reality in an incisive and ironic way by showing Kim Jong-un (North Korea), Donald Trump (United States), Recep Tayyip Erdogan (Turkey), Vladimir Putin (Russia) and Xi Jiping (China) in Father Christmas costumes.
The solidarity campaign starts 15 December
Produced by RSF and its ad agency, BETC, the campaign video will begin screening on French TV channels today (15 December). As every year, RSF counts on the general public's generosity in order to continue its work.
