Jim Phillipoff to join RSF’s Svoboda Satellite Project
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) announced today that Jim Phillipoff will head the new Svoboda Satellite project which aims to broadcast independent and pluralistic audio and video content via satellite to Russian speakers everywhere via satellite. The project originates from a partnership between RSF and the Denis Diderot committee, which was founded by Jim Phillipoff and Dr. Andre Lange.
The Svoboda Satellite project has a mission to provide programming for Russian speakers across the world, including Russia itself, and will help to combat propaganda from the Kremlin.
Jim Phillipoff has more than 20 years’ experience building and managing media networks in Europe, including the former Soviet States. He served as the founder and CEO of Ukraine’s Xtra TV, a DTH platform in Ukraine, as well as having been CEO of Kyiv Post Media, and recently served as Director of Partnerships at Irdeto, which provides digital platform security.
Commenting on his new engagement, Jim said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with RSF on such an exciting project. It’s so important to promote the free flow of journalism, especially given what’s happening to Ukraine. I’m honored to be a part of such a noble effort and look forward to using my industry and regional knowledge to help make a difference.”
“RSF’s mission is to defend the right of every human being to have access to free and reliable information. We at RSF are extremely excited about launching the Svoboda Satellite project, the likes of which has not been attempted for some time. Jim will add a great deal of expertise and experience to help turn this concept into a reality.
