Asia Sentinel
An independent English-language news website, the Asia Sentinel was created in 2006 by a group of foreign correspondents based in various Asian countries who were frustrated by the lack of interest in Asian news at their respective publications. Initially based in Hong Kong and move ten years later to California, it carries news reports, analyses and opinion pieces by journalists and experts, covering major national and regional stories, including business, science and the arts. It was first blocked in Malaysia in 2016 after publishing a story about the then prime minister. Since then, it has often been blocked in Thailand, Indonesia and elsewhere.
